Underage Drinking — Raleigh, North Carolina, Defense Lawyer
An underage drinking charge can be added to your criminal record and follow you for your entire adult life. However, there are steps that can be taken to mitigate the future impact of the charge — especially if it is your first offense. An experienced criminal defense lawyer can help you make sure the process goes smoothly and significantly increase the odds that your record will be kept clean.
Attorney Dewey P. Brinkley is a former Wake County Prosecutor who has handled hundreds of criminal trial cases. He will work with you one-on-one, dedicating as much time as is necessary to make the strongest case possible to keep your underage drinking charge off your permanent record. Wake County's "90-96 Program"
The 90-96 Program allows young people to have their first underage drinking charge voluntarily dismissed. After the dismissal is entered the client is eligible to file an expungement, which removes any record that the defendant was ever charged with the crime that has been dismissed. In exchange for this, the program only requires that you take a drug or alcohol education class and refrain from picking up any new charges. If your case is not eligible for the 90-96 Program, then we will negotiate with prosecutors to see if you are eligible for other diversionary programs. In every case, the goal is to minimize penalties as much as possible and keep the charge off your record.
